A Gift from Boston's Sister City - Kyoto
Mr. Aso came to live and work in Boston on March 10th 1967.He established himself as a professor of art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston in 1971. In 1973, at the request of his many dedicated students, he would establish the Kaji Aso Studio at 40 Saint. Stephen Street in Boston. Kaji Aso Studio has continued to grow and enrich the cultural offering in the Back bay and Fenway areas.
Mr. Aso became an honorary citizen of Boston in 1986 and was awarded the "Paul Revere " Bowl by then Mayor Ray Flynn.
He worked to enrich the cultural ties between Boston and her sister city Kyoto and received recognition from Mayor Menino in 1990. He also established the first Japanese Tea House in Boston in 1886 called The Tea House of "Flower Wind"
In 1993 Mayor Menino chose Mr. Aso to represent Boston in the annual music celebration at Padua Italy - Boston's sister city. Mr. Aso performed at the celebration of Saint Anthony in Padua
